Parish Council: The council has monthly meetings and is comprised of elected and appointed members. The six elected members each serves a three-year staggered term. Together, the council attempts to assist the pastor with any and all activities as requested and help to resolve problems brought before the council. The council members are to represent the parish members, study and evaluate the current state of parish ministries, discern the parish needs and identify gifts and talents available to meet those needs, and make recommendations for future goals and priorities in the context of acting in an advisory role to the pastor. No special training is required, but problem identification and resolution as well as interpersonal communication skills are helpful. Director of Religious Education: An appointed apostolate requiring special educational and spiritual formation. In addition to directing the religious education of the parish children, the Director al attends parish council meetings, recruits religious education teachers, and reviews educational materials. The Director and teachers meet before religious education classes, monthly during religious education classes for religious enrichment, in preparation for sacraments, and at the year's end. The religious education teachers are volunteers who must be practicing Catholics, open to attending on-going enrichment courses to increase their ability to teach and to work toward Diocesan teacher certification. Liturgy: An appointed position requiring special training in Liturgy. The coordinator recruits, trains, schedules, and coordinates all lay ministries involved in liturgical celebrations, including but not limited to Eucharistic ministers, greeters, lectors hospitality, altar servers and musicians. In addition to training in the duties of theses ministries, workshops for spiritual enrichment and required annually for all liturgical ministries. Volunteers are needed as qualified lectors, greeters, altar servers, choir members, cantors and to help with the children's liturgy of the word. Meetings are called as needed for planning. RCIA, ReMembering, and Sacramental Preparation: The Director of Adult Formation must have training in advanced religious education and certification in Adult Education. The Director of Adult Formation attends parish council meetings and holds weekly classes as needed. Volunteers are needed to serve as sponsors and to be trained as catechists. Social Concerns: An appointed position that coordinates the programs relating to social concerns and community outreach. The food pantry, transportation for handicapped members to attend Mass and church activities, Pro-Life and the Christmas Giving Tree are a few of the activities. Members can choose to serve on as may sub-committees as they wish. This Committee is always seeking new members for the parish to join. This is truly a means of witnessing our faith in the community. |
