"Faithfulness of Christ, faithfulness of priests" is the theme of the Year for Priests announced by Pope Benedict XVI.
This year is an invitation to support, encourage, and pray for all priests, that they may be faitful to their calling.
It is also a great opportunity to pray and work for an ever-needed increase in vocations to the priesthood.
Our Holy Father established the Year for Priests in honor of the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Mary Vianney. The Pope inaugurated the year on June 19, 2009,
by presiding at Vespers in St. Peter's Basilica, where the relics of St. John Vianney were brought from France for the occasion. On June 19, 2010, he will close the year
by presiding at a "World Meeting of Priests" in St. Peter's Square. During the course of the year, the Holy Father will proclaim St. John Vianney as patron saint of all the
priests in the world. Catholics have been granted many opportunities for additional graces this year, including indulgences that may be obtained by participating
in special
events and devotions during the Year for Priests.
